Position Summary: Public Information Officers (PIO) in our Response Cadre will support state and local government agencies during active disaster missions. This team of on-call professionals may deploy to Emergency Operations Center (EOC) sites and/or field environments to advise clients on managing their response to natural disasters and other crisis events. Assignments will last a minimum of 30 days and require deployment within 24 to 72 hours' notice of activation. Public Information Officers (PIO): Response Cadre candidates will be considered for placement on a roster of professionals available for contract-based deployments. Responsibilities for the Public Information Officer (PIO): Response Cadre Include:

  • Develop and execute comprehensive communication strategies that align with client objectives, including crisis communications, reputation management, and proactive messaging in sensitive and dynamic situations.
  • Provide strategic counsel to help clients navigate complex challenges in emergency management.
  • Craft and deliver compelling content for a variety of communication channels, including press releases, speeches, presentations, website content, social media, and newsletters, tailoring messaging for specific client needs and audiences.
  • Monitor and analyze communication effectiveness, providing data-driven insights to refine strategies and optimize impact.
  • Facilitate and manage high-level stakeholder engagement by managing communications between clients and key stakeholders, including government agencies, community groups, and the media.
  • Support the successful completion of our client’s incident objectives and coordinate with various partner agencies and Emergency Support Functions (ESFs).
Qualifications for Public Information Officer (PIO): Response Cadre Include:
  • At least five (5) years of experience in Communications, Public Relations, Government Relations, and / or a related field.
  • At least three (3) years of professional experience in emergency management or a related field, such as prior experience in an Emergency Operations Center (EOC), on an Incident Management Team (IMT), Planning Section, or similar preferred.
  • A bachelor’s degree or higher preferred.
  • Proven knowledge in developing and executing strategic communications plans, including intergovernmental affairs, preferably within the emergency management field.
  • Willing and able to be on-call for travel within 24 to 72 hours of notice and to remain deployed for at least 30 days anywhere in the United States.
  • The ability to work 12-hour shifts as needed based on the client’s operational tempo.
Compensation for the Public Information Officer (PIO): Response Cadre Includes:
  • Salary range of $70,000 - $150,000. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skills, experience and training, licensure and certifications, internal equity, location, travel requirements, and other business and organizational needs.
