The Roller Operator at Amrize is responsible for operating heavy rolling machinery to grade and finish asphalt surfaces for parking lots, driveways, and sidewalks. Duties include equipment setup, adhering to project instructions, performing routine equipment maintenance, and assisting the paving crew with various tasks. The role requires physical fitness, teamwork, safety compliance, and ability to work outdoors in diverse weather conditions.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Amrize, a leading supplier of quality, construction building materials in the United States, has an immediate opening for a Roller Operator to support Asphalt Production Operations in Crofton, Maryland. The position is primarily responsible for operating heavy rolling machinery to grade specifications to the construction of parking lots, driveways, sidewalks, and various other surfaces. The Roller Operator distributes, breaks down, compresses, and gives a finished surface to cooling asphalt.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
  • Unloads tools, setup equipment and prepare work area,
  • Follow project instructions from construction foreman and/or supervisor
  • Measure, mark, or record openings or distances to layout areas where construction work will be performed
  • Use construction and maintenance tools and equipment to complete daily tasks (includes but not limited to shovels, rakes, loots, etc.)
  • Safely operate a variety of tools including, but not limited to, jackhammers, drills, saws, grinders, torches, etc.
  • Ability to assist with the loading and unloading of equipment and materials
  • Safely and effectively operate machinery in order to complete assigned jobs- skid steer, asphalt paver, roller
  • Thorough understand all aspects of the paving industry including preparatory work, grades, drainage, paving patterns, aggregate size, job specifications, oil consistencies, compaction and other details related to asphalt paving,
  • Performs equipment maintenance duties such as cleaning, greasing and maintaining fluid levels on equipment; will also assist with equipment cleanup as needed,
  • Work outdoors in changing weather conditions, around hot asphalt and asphalt paving equipment,
  • Complete all assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner, with high standards for quality and safety
  • Position is not solely based on operating Roller- will help crew shovel, lute, and any other assigned duties assigned by Foreman

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Required Work Experience: 2 years experience
  • Manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination, good physical fitness, a good sense of balance, and an ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Excellent oral communication skills
  • Reliable transportation
  • Ability to work in team environment
  • Licenses Required: Valid driver License
  • Required Computer and Software Skills:Basic computer skills
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions without limitations.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs

  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Subject to applicable law, employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
